This week was "disappointing".
This week in Language Arts we continued writing our disappointing stories. They are all going magnificent. We also did a paper on visual elements. Visual Elements is when a picture helps you understand the writing better. Also we are starting to work on mysteries. We watched a video to find out what the characteristics of a mystery are.
This week in Science we kept talking about forces and motion. During that we did a couple of dittos and a vocabulary review. Mrs. Tomlin also told us that we would be doing a project on force and motion. She gave us different choices of how to do it.
This week in Math, we reviewed and took our division test. We all did great!
This week was test-tastic!

This week was rapid!
This week in Science we continued learning about forces. We learned about balanced and unbalanced forces. A balanced force is forces that cancel each other out when acting together on a single object. Unbalanced forces are forces that don't cancel each other out when acting on a single object. In addition, we learned about acceleration and deceleration. Acceleration is an increase in velocity, and deceleration is a decrease in velocity. I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you about velocity. Velocity is the speed of a moving object taken together with its direction of travel. We also learned about speed, friction, and zero-net and not-zero forces. Speed is how fast an object's position changes with time at any given moment. Friction is a force that opposes the motion of one object moving past another. A zero-net force is if the force is zero and the acceleration is zero. A non-zero force is if the force is not zero, there will be a change in velocity.
This week in Language Arts, we learned about quotations, well actually we review it. There's many, many ways of using quotations. Here, I'll tell you some--use them around the names of poems, or the name of a chapter of a book, or a song. This week we finished our unforgettable story! We also started a new story, a disappointing experience. To sum it up, we did Study Island in reading for point of view and summarizing.
This week in Math, we FINALLY got done with dividing four digits by two digits. Now, we're doing five digits by two digits. You do it like this. Take 96,544 divided by 44. First you see if you can divide 96 by 44, and it can go two times. Forty-four time two is 88. Then you subtract 96 minus 88, and it is 8. Then you bring down your five. That makes it 85. Now you see how many times 44 goes into 85. It only goes one time. Because if you do it by two it's 88, not 85 or lower. So now you subtract 85 minus 44, which is 42. Now you bring down the 4, and that makes it 414. Can you guess how many times 44 goes into 414? If you guessed 9, you are correct. Forty-four times 9 is 396. As usual you subtract 414 minus 396, which is 18. Then you bring down the last number, 4, so you have 184. The closest you can get without going over is 4, and when you multiply 44 times 4 you get 176. Then you minus 184 minus 176 and it is 8, so you put remainder 8 at the end of the numbers. The final answer is 2196 R8.
This week was OUTRAGEOUS!

This week was Splendid!
This week in Social Studies we started an explorer report. Before break we picked an explorer and researched that person, and now we're doing a report on the explorer we picked. Mrs. Tomlin found a site called Blabberize where you find a picture, place how far you want the mouth to go down, and then record your report into the microphone. Then you watch to see if you like it. If not, you do it again until you like it. Then Mrs. Tomlin is going to put it here, on our own wiki page.
This week we started Science and learned about how forces effect our everyday lives. In addition, we learned about a special type of force called Inertia. WAY before break, like in November, we learned about space. We learned how the sun's gravity pulls the planets in our galaxy toward it, but inertia helps keep the planets from just floating on off into space. Inertia helps the planets rotate along with the help of the sun's gravitational pull.
This week in Language Arts, we went into a site on our laptops called Kidblog and typed about our New Year's Resolution. In addition, we had to write a story about an unforgettable moment and add a lot of excitement! We also learned about apositives. Apositives are things like this--Our gym teacher, Mr. Maska, is a very nice man. Mr. Maska can be there and sound good, or we can leave it out and it would still sound good. An apositive explains the noun that comes before it.
This week in Math, we learned how to divide 4 digits by 2 digits. We are doing a great job on it!
We also welcomed a new student, Christina, this week.
